Needs-Based Community Development (NEBCOD) Projects
Youth Education/Empowerment Initiative
With a focus to achieve its Long term project; the Ofuobi Goodwill/Skills Center, the Ofuobi Women have accomplished the following in the area of Youth Education/Empowerment via Vocational Training:
- May 2005: OFUOBI Women Association held its inaugural Launch and Fundraising for a Goodwill Resource Center. This event exceeded all expectations in terms of attendance and fundraising targets. It also helped raise funds for the establishment of the Ofuobi Goodwill Center in Enugu.
The Center serves as:
§ A Vocational Center:
Where Enugu youths will be trained in skills such as Catering, Nursing Assistant, Computer Literacy, Sewing, Hair-dressing, Carpentry, among others;
§ A Health Center:
For preventive measures against HIV/AIDS, as well as distribution point for over-the-counter drugs;
§ A Food Distribution Center and Thrift Store:
For warehousing and distribution of food and clothing items, etc.;
§ Showcase Coal City:
For other countries to invest in Enugu State.
- December 2006: To help alleviate the transportation problems facing students from poor families who attend school at the Nazareth Skills training Center, Enugu, Ofuobi donated a 15-seater Toyota Coaster to the center. During this event, it also undertook the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a two-storey modern classroom block - the Ofuobi Resource Centre.
- December 2008: Ofuobi also donated modern desk top computers in addition to deep freezers to the Nazareth Skills training Center, Enugu.
§ Provided financial and human resource support to the annual Enugu USA Medical Missions, flagship program undertaken by the national association to provide essential medical services to several towns and villages in Enugu State
§ Participated in local health fairs in the Washington DC. Metro Area
