OFUOBI Vocational Training Center, Enugu

  • Scope
    • Build, Own, Operate an Ofuobi Goodwill/Skills Center in Enugu
      • A World Class training facility to provide organizational, leadership, vocational and skills training to youth
      • Initial curriculum:
        • ICT: Web Design, Microsoft Office Application: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
        • Designs: Fashion Design (Sewing); Jewelry Design (Bead making)
        • Makeup & Head Ties
        • Seminar Series: Lifestyle, Health Education & Awareness/Wellness, Customer Service, Ethics
      • Directed at empowering youths 18+
  • Schedule (Phase I)
    • Acquire a (rent-free or minimal rent) facility: 2-3 room (temporary) facility in Enugu
    • Launch the Center; Dec 2015
    • Furnish center with computers, sewing machines and mini library
    • Staff & Student Recruitment
    • In line w/Four Point agenda of His Excellency, Governor of Enugu State on Employment Generation and Youth Empowerment

Needs-Based Community Development (NEBCOD) Projects

  • Scope
    • Education or Health projects for communities in Enugu State
      • Meet the immediate needs of the community in the area of health providing such facilities as OTC medications, health care equipment
      • Meet the immediate needs of the community in the area of education (K-12) providing such facilities as desks, tables and chairs

Youth Education/Empowerment Initiative

With a focus to achieve its Long term project; the Ofuobi Goodwill/Skills Center, the Ofuobi Women have accomplished the following in the area of Youth Education/Empowerment via Vocational Training: 

- May 2005: OFUOBI Women Association held its inaugural Launch and Fundraising for a Goodwill Resource Center. This event exceeded all expectations in terms of attendance and fundraising targets. It also helped raise funds for the establishment of the Ofuobi Goodwill Center in Enugu.

The Center serves as:

§  A Vocational Center:
Where Enugu youths will be trained in skills such as Catering, Nursing Assistant, Computer Literacy, Sewing, Hair-dressing, Carpentry, among others;

§  A Health Center:
For preventive measures against HIV/AIDS, as well as distribution point for over-the-counter drugs;

§  A Food Distribution Center and Thrift Store:
For warehousing and distribution of food and clothing items, etc.;

§  Showcase Coal City:
For other countries to invest in Enugu State.

- December 2006: To help alleviate the transportation problems facing students from poor families who attend school at the Nazareth Skills training Center, Enugu, Ofuobi donated a 15-seater Toyota Coaster to the center. During this event, it also undertook the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a two-storey modern classroom block - the Ofuobi Resource Centre. 

- December 2008: Ofuobi also donated modern desk top computers in addition to deep freezers to the Nazareth Skills training Center, Enugu.

Health Mission:

§  Provided financial and human resource support to the annual Enugu USA Medical Missions, flagship program undertaken by the national association to provide essential medical services to several towns and villages in Enugu State

§  Participated in local health fairs in the Washington DC. Metro Area 

S.O.M.E, Washington DC:

  • Annual thanksgiving’ donations to S.O.M.E (So Others May Eat) in Washington DC; donating time and money volunteering and providing food for the under privilege in our community. 

Women Empowerment: Grinding Machine Project:

  • Active member participation, coordination on the Enugu USA Women Affairs Grinding Machine Project 
  • Donated Grinding Machines to indigent communities in Enugu State
